Student lifestyle is often described as a mix of the unexpected, rather stressful, and yet the best time of your life. It gets rather hard to juggle a healthy lifestyle when you realise you have two assignments to hand in, a presentation to prepare for, and a party to attend. So how does one crack this tough egg? By managing it better, of course!
Here are our tips on how you can improve your lifestyle as a student in order to maintain that sweet 3.0 GPA while still having a good time with your besties!
- Sweat It Out
As common as this tip is, exercise is unfortunately what works the best. The human body is a curious playground, which is why we need to make sure everything is oiled and well kept to ensure that it works well. It’s time to check out what recreational activities your university offers, such as Zumba classes, swimming, or even Muay Thai if you’re looking for something more hardcore!
- No Drama, Mama!
Life is far too complex to be overcomplicated by pointless stress. It’s time to cut out those toxic friends (or more realistically, keep them at bay) and prioritise YOUR life. The hard lesson to learn here is that sometimes, some friends will not care about how much space they take up in your life.
Maintaining healthy friendships really helps you keep boundaries with your friends in order to focus on your studies. As juicy as gossip can get, remember: that test score is far more important!
- Marie Kondo Your Life
The famous Japanese personality who introduced the method of removing everything that does not bring joy to your life applies to the student lifestyle as well! Declutter your schedule by writing everything down (according to the hour, if you need to) and find yourself sorting out that overwhelming blob of tasks that has been suffocating you.
Now, everything feels a lot more easier right? Make sure to allocate time for recharging yourself as well, all work and no play makes for a sad and stressed college student…
- One Step At A Time
With how challenging uni life can get, an easy way out that many of us are guilty of is multitasking. That being said, it is proven to be an ineffective method as it ends up increasing your stress and even causes more anxiety. It’s time to take a step back and plan thoroughly instead, make sure to maximise effectiveness over speed, as that is what helps you complete your tasks better.
- Take The Dying Out Of Studying!
It’s never fun to hit the books, but we’re long past the boring days of endlessly pouring over your notes. Time to start studying smarter instead; refer to online flashcards, Prezi presentations available, and let’s not forget the gold mine that is your lecturer’s slides.
Reviewing your past work also helps you refresh your memory, especially since it’s stuff you’ve already written before. Focus on where you made mistakes and you’ll find yourself speeding through the chapters a lot faster than before!
- Fix Your Sleeping Schedule
We know we sound like your mother nagging at you– but unfortunately, she’s always right! After all, there is a reason why all-nighters and crashing at 7am is making you feel so sluggish during your tutorials.
We’d advise you to stick to a regular sleeping schedule with a minimum of 6 to 7 hours, and to wake up earlier instead. Get more hours done in the day when you’re up and about at 5am!
- Find Out What Studying Style Suits You
Are you a kinesthetic learner? Or perhaps a visual one? All of these different studying styles exist and are waiting for you to realise them so that you can reach your full potential. Once you’ve figured out which works for you, you’ll start to realise that studying isn’t as bad as it sounds!
- Get A Study Group
Even if you are a person who works best alone, having a study group helps when it comes to accountability. This way, the pressure to attend and discuss that one paper will ensure that you finished your reading the night before. It also helps as when you discuss your findings with others, you might be open to a new perspective that you never realised previously.
And with that, we hope that all of these tips will help you cruise your way smoothly through the ride that is university life! Let us know if you’d want more helpful tips or what you’d want to hear next from us by dropping us a line or a comment below.
