Calling all year 3, year 4 or postgraduate engineering students in Southeast Asia! Edotco Infrastructure for Tomorrow wants your design! The organisers are Edotco Group, in partnership with University Community Transformation Centre under Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
This is your chance to gather a team of engineers and design the next generation communications tower. Furthermore, your design concepts are open to any improvements you can think of. For example, using alternative materials and optimising or inventing structure design or improving the sites these towers are built on.
First and foremost, theme of this competition goes, “Infrastructure for Tomorrow: Designing the Future”. Hence, this means you and your team have the chance to bring your designs to life! Wouldn’t it be awesome that you’ll get to be a part of a designing team for a better tomorrow? Plus, being able to do so before you graduate would make your resume stand out.
But wait! Who are the organizers? If you wonder who edotco is, they operate and manage over 41,000 towers across Asia under the Axiata group! Edotco’s strong portfolio and business operation provide an exciting opportunity to bring your design into the real world (if your team wins, of course).
How to Participate the Edotco Infratstructure for Tomorrow?
Students must establish teams of two to four people, with at least one Civil Engineering major. After registering, you and your team will attempt to design and build a tower and foundation following a Technical Framework provided by Edotco.
Don’t worry! Your team has mentorship sessions to assist with your designs for 65 days. In fact, your mentors consist of representatives from Edotco and the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment of the University of Malaya (UM).
Edtoco is expecting entries of more than 100 engineering students from 16 Asian nations. This year’s top five submissions will be presented to a panel of judges. Which includes representatives from Edotco and the industry and academics from the University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
And finally, cash prizes totalling USD 5,000 will be awarded to the top three winners with the most inventive concepts. (The pride of winning this competition is worth a lot more)
But first, here’s an important tip! Above all, your designs have to consider these factors;
- Creativity
- Cost Efficiency
- Feasibility & Usefulness
- Environmental Friendliness.
