What a bro Soh Wooi Yik, he has shown us what a brother would do in times of need. Our national badminton, Lee Zii Jia, has had an eventful year. There have been many highs and lows throughout the tournaments that have been held. Unfortunately, the No. 8 in the world has had a difficult time in recent events.
Zii Jia was forced to retire from the Hylo Open’s finals and the Indonesia Masters due to a painful back injury. In the World Badminton Finals, Zii Jia competed, but he fell out against Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the quarter-finals. However, fellow national player Soh Wooi Yik has demonstrated efforts to cheer his teammate up.
Zii Jia’s participation in the World Badminton Finals 2021 brought great delight to many fans. Having recovered, he made it to the semi-finals of the competition. Zii Jia also posted the following statement on December 4th: “I fight for what I desire.”
Unfortunately, Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand proved too much of a challenge for Zii Jia. As a result, 18-21 and 18-21 were the scores in each game. As Zii Jia was obviously distraught, the rest of the crew was eager to show support.
Earlier this week, Soh shared a picture of the two of them on Instagram, captioning it, “You said you always got my back, just wanna say (I) got your back too, bro.” Even more so, once Zii Jia responded to the heartfelt message, many fans swooned. It was nice of you, bro. Thanks a lot for having me. “Let’s try again in Spain. #Last Tournament”
As a saying goes, that a true friend will attempt to lift you up when you fall. And, if they are unable to do so, will lay down next to you. Many people would envy the friendship that Soh and Zii Jia have. Their fans have dubbed them “brothers” since they’ve always been by one other’s sides since the beginning of their professional careers.
The men’s doubles player was absent from the recent tournament this time around. However, because of the 2021 French Open loss, he can sympathise with Zii Jia’s angst.
We eagerly await their return at the BWF World Championships in 2021, their final competition!
