Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), the defending Malaysia Cup champions, defeated Terengganu FC (TFC) 4-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals to secure their position in the Malaysia Cup finals.
As soon as play began, the Southern Tigers were in full flow, netting three times in the opening 15 minutes at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri.
Goals from Brazilian forward Bergson da Silva and Argentian import Gonzalo Cabrera gave Benjamin Mora’s side a 2-0 lead in the seventh minute.
JDT’s attack on Nafuzi Zain’s team continued, and Bergson scored again in the 14th minute with a strong close-range drive.
Safiq Rahim was sent out for a foul and “headbutting” incident just two minutes later, but Toronto FC could not take advantage of the opportunity, and the score remained 3-0 until the finish of the match.
Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC, the reigning three-time champions, will make their debut appearance in the Malaysia Cup final at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Tuesday (Nov 30) at 9pm.
