Pause the dance challenges, we got a problem! Everyone’s favourite app to kill time on during this Restricted Movement Order, Tiktok, seems to have plenty of creators with attractive lights in their bedrooms. After all, who wouldn’t want a room that could recreate the feeling of being at a club while social distancing? It’s the perfect foolproof plan!
If it was that easy to get a cool room, why didn’t you say so? Well, one Tiktoker found out the hard way.
@ava_cloutish_clarkplease if you have LED lights, I suggest removing them. there is a big chance of them exploding and catching on fire.♬ original sound – ava_cloutish_clark
User @ava_clouthish_clark posted on the app a close encounter where their friends have been experiencing LED light explosions in their rooms, due to leaving their lights on for days on an end. The user even went as far to remove their own LED lights after hearing about this, afraid that their room might catch fire from it.

These LED light strips have been heavily popularised by Tiktok, where many Malaysians have also resorted to purchasing from shopping platforms like Lazada and Shopee. Most of them cost as low as RM10 per strip! As most of these lights are being shipped from China, it may seem that the cheap price is a gamble in the name of aesthetics. But why does this happen?
LED light strips are often sold in two categories; low voltage and high voltage. While these may vary per seller, it’s important to know which type your bedroom requires to avoid overheating. Beware of the number of LEDs per metre too, as the more isn’t always merrier in this case. Products with 120 to 144 LEDs per metre are known as double strips (which are made without any protective silicone barriers) have a very high chance of burning due to overheating! Besides that, LED lights are built with a different resistance than regular light bulbs— so don’t leave them on all night long! Not only do the coloured lights affect your sleep but it could turn into a serious fire hazard if they were to explode while you were still in dreamland.
